Beyoncé officially kicked off her highly anticipated Cowboy Carter Tour last night at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles—and once again, she left fans edgeless. By now, we’re used to Beyoncé dominating the stage with her unmatched breath control, stamina, and vocal prowess—and opening night of this sold-out show was no different. From the electrifying stage production, Blue Ivy blazing center stage with a dance solo (okay, niece!), to the heartwarming surprise appearance of her youngest daughter Rumi, the night was nothing short of iconic.
The high-octane performance centered around her genre-defying Cowboy Carter album—a bold sonic fusion of country, folk, R&B, hip hop, pop, rock and roll, and even opera! The nearly 3-hour set list also included fan favorites from Renaissance as well as past hits like Formation, Crazy in Love, and Diva (thanks again to manager Blue Ivy for looking out, IYKYK).
THE CULTURAL SHIFT WE NEEDED
More than just a Beyonce concert, this tour is a cultural event. With Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé dives deep into the hidden legacy of Black cowboy culture—its roots, its rhythm, and its long-lost ties to Black music artistry. This historical lens on country music origins and Beyonce’s intentionality to reclaim who is allowed to participate in its culture, gives the tour an added depth and meaning that loyal fans don’t take for granted.
THE QUEEN BEY OF MULTI-TASKING
And real members of the Beyhive know: pulling off a Beyoncé production is no easy feat. Beyoncé, a self-proclaimed perfectionist, is hands-on in every detail from grueling rehearsals with hundreds of dancers to meticulously fine-tuning the sound, set list, stage design, lighting, cinematography, and costume changes. Behind the scenes, we’ve seen her struggle to get everything from the run-time, props, graphics, and even the fans–to get in formation. We can hear Blue Ivy now, “Mom you need a nap,” ha.
Even more, Beyoncé is now also juggling running her new prestige hair care brand, CÉCRED, which recently launched at Ulta Beauty, her award-winning premium whisky brand, SIR DAVIS, and her luxury fragrance line, BEYONCÉ PARFUMS, all while being a mom of three, wife, and all around multi-hyphenate Muse. And she does it all, while still managing to look stunning!
MUSES IN THE MAKING
And speaking of Beyoncé on mom duty, fans were treated to something extra special when her 7-year-old daughter, Rumi, made her stage debut. Standing proudly alongside her mom and big sis, Blue Ivy, Rumi excitedly waved to the sold-out crowd, clearly relishing her brief time in the spotlight. With that sparkle in her eye and the crowd’s reaction, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she followed in Blue’s footsteps as the next Carter kid to command center stage.
And Blue Ivy? Tuh. She easily brought the house down, nearly stealing the show. As a featured dancer, her evolution on stage has been a joy to watch—from dance moves that began more smooth and reserved to the now Janet Jackson level precision, confidence, and overall swag. Even without a mic, Blue Ivy commands (if not altogether steals) the stage.
GET THE RODEO AESTHETIC
Throughout the night, Beyoncé wore a series of custom looks from Mugler, Dsquared2, LaPointe, Lowe, Diesel, and Roberto Cavalli, each blending sparkle, americana, and cowgirl flair in true Cowboy Carter style.
As always, Beyoncé’s fans were in formation by showing up and showing out for the tour’s theme. For THE RENAISSANCE TOUR, the Queen called for metallics—and the Beyhive delivered, spiking silver fashion sales by 152%. Now, the Cowboy Carter western aesthetic is taking over. Think: denim-on-denim, cow prints, wide-brimmed hats, and boots made for Tamia line dancing.
Beyoncé will perform for a total of five nights in Los Angeles before taking the show to Chicago, New Jersey, London, Paris, Houston, D.C., Atlanta, and finally closing out in Las Vegas this July.
