Jumpstart your week at the movies to watch some of our favorite Muses!
First off, we have the strikingly beautiful and multi-talented Ryan Destiny, who gives a surprisingly gritty performance in “The Fire Inside”. The sultry singer and actress completely nails her portrayal of the fierce Clarissa Shields, showcasing her groundbreaking journey to become the first-ever two-time Olympic boxing champion! Ryan’s stripped-down and soul-baring performance is a complete juxtaposition to the always glam goddess we usually see—okay, range!
Ryan shared with the Los Angeles Times that she trained for a whole year for this film, fitting it in between those annoying production pauses during COVID. Plus, when she chatted with Drew Barrymore, she mentioned how the legendary Queen Latifah inspired her to create a vision board for the kind of roles she wants to take on. This is exactly what we mean when we say Muses Sharpen Muses!
So far, Ryan’s remarkable performance has received critical acclaim, winning the Rising Star Award at the Denver Film Festival and earning nominations for Breakthrough Performer at The Gotham Awards, Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture at the NAACP Image Awards, and Best Lead Performance at the Independent Spirit Awards.
“The Fire Inside” stands as a tribute to Muses everywhere, reminding us that patience is key when manifesting our dreams. Don’t miss your chance to see this incredible film, now playing in theaters across the US and set to hit UK theaters on February 7th!
What happens when Issa Rae, SZA, and the one and only “You Know It’s Your Girllll!” Keke Palmer link up? You guessed it—hilarity ensues of course! In their new stressful comedy “One of Them Days,” we watch best friends Druex Jones (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) join forces on a mission to replace their stolen rent money to avoid a pending eviction. It’s a hilarious ride produced by the multi-talented Issa Rae.
The only thing funnier than watching SZA’s colorful onscreen improv paired with KeKe’s perfect comedic timing is watching all three ladies act up during their promo run. Take their recent appearance on an episode of Hot Ones, where Keke straight-up asked SZA if “Drake was a good kisser?” SZA’s reaction was pure comedy and had us all in tears laughing. Talk about keeping a secret! The ladies antics continued when they played a game of “Would You Rather?” Proving once again, that you can’t take this Muse trio nowhere!
Unless of course, you want to go to the top of the box office! With “One of Them Days” landing at number one during its opening weekend! If you’re in the mood for a good hearty laugh to lift your spirits, then definitely go see “One of Them Days” playing in theaters now.
